Map shows local breakdown of covid deaths in every Teesside postcode

The locations of every coronavirus-related death on Teesside have been revealed in an online map.

Data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) provides a breakdown of the number of fatalities for each postcode – including on Teesside.

The latest available figures cover from the beginning of March last year, when the pandemic began, and January 2021.

The highest number of deaths was recorded in Berwick Hills in Middlesbrough, which recorded 36 deaths in that time frame.

This was followed by Central Stockton, Portrack and Low Hartburn in Stockton, where there were 35, Coulby Newham in Middlesbrough, where there were 34, and Headland and West View in Hartlepool where 32 deaths have been recorded.

The areas as described by the ONS do not always match up with the names of council wards, or the names of areas most familiar to Teessiders.

You can search the map below.

The map uses what are known as Lower Layer Super Output Areas instead.

Below is a list of the number of covid-related deaths for every ward on Teesside.
