Man and woman injured in smash which closed A174 as police appeal for dash cam footage

A man and woman are in hospital after a crash which closed the A174.

The accident, which involved a BMW 135i and a Mazda 2, happened on the eastbound carriageway at the junction with Eston Road in Lazenby.

Emergency services attended the scene at around 8.40pm on Wednesday.

The driver of the Mazda, a 48-year-old man, suffered internal injuries and was taken to Middlesbrough’s James Cook University Hospital.

A 28-year-old who was a passenger in the BMW suffered a suspected broken wrist and ankle in the smash.

She was also taken to hospital for treatment.

Three fire crews from Grangetown and Redcar attended the scene and first aid was given to the casualties until paramedics arrived.

Cleveland Police issued an appeal for dash cam footage to help with their investigations into the cause of the crash.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or anyone who may have dash cam footage is asked to contact PC Mark Thomas on 101, quoting incident number 143556.
